2008-Jun Fontana Street Legals
It was an exciting day that I’m sure a lot of people lost sleep over in the days prior. It was Thiem’s EF’s first day back at the strip in a long time.
Thiem’s EF was trailered to Fontana by Thai’s truck. Mike KG was following and said that we were going 90+. Thiem was driving and if I remember correctly, he thought we were going 75 based on the truck’s speedo. We even blew by CHP but we weren’t pulled over, luckily.
Thiem’s brakes were smoking after each run so he very easily should have been hitting 12s if not 11s.
May you forever rest in peace, Jonny. You are missed!
Unfortunately, I only recorded three poor-quality videos with my now-obsolete point-and-shoot camera that day. However, these were likely the best races of the day.

Thiem’s 1990 EF, one of two clips. This may have been first run of the day. Bogged a bit at launch but shifts down the strip were clean:
Thiem’s 1990 EF, two of two clips. After the first run, brakes were smoking as the calipers appear to have been seized and were dragging the whole way down the strip. This may have been a cause for bogging at launch and preventing a solid, clean run. The following quarter mile was reached in 13.404 seconds with a trap speed of 102.71 MPH:
